Curry Architects Spotlight: Higher Education – Adaptive Reuse in Campus Growth

This Curry Architects Spotlight on our Education Studio wraps up this week with a last look at adaptive reuse of architecture and sites in campus master planning and growth.

Many colleges and universities will often have to expand into existing buildings and sites so they can continue to grow their educational programs and campus services. Just because it’s not a brand new, ground up construction doesn’t mean it’s not exciting or innovative. Curry Architects renovated the former Shire Pharmaceuticals site in Owings Mills for Stevenson University which now is home to the School of Design building and their largest academic building which houses the School of Sciences. This former industrial space was redesigned into what is now their Owings Mills North campus which has some of their most cutting edge and creative programs.
